Text for the installation "LIGHT CELL"
LEDs (light emitting diodes) are an integral part of high tech civilization cultures in 2004. These small "lamps", mostly illuminated in red, consume very little electricity and have a service life of approx. 100,000 hours. Their use began as signal lamps and in display panels. The entry into our everyday life took place creepingly. . Television / video recorders and - cameras, radio alarm clocks, light switches, music systems up to the bicycle lighting and the Christmas tree. They usually signal a state of constant availability and readiness of the corresponding device and of course they also symbolize monitoring and control: alarm systems, monitoring systems for production and research ... No laboratory is conceivable without these small light points. ...... whether stoically dormant or nervously flashing.
All these 'residual light sources' also symbolize our comforting familiarity with this apparent security that discreetly guards our life cycle from the control devices at birth to the baby monitor etc. to the lung machine or infusion control...
When entering deeper into the room installation, motion detectors trigger 2,000 watt dazzling bright lamps. The light becomes a disturbing factor... ... it remains somehow unpredictable like the weather with a sun sometimes breaking through the clouds.
Soberingly, the glistening bright light also demonstrates the discrepancy of this deceptive apparent security. In this installation the white light is generated by a 2000 W floodlight... soon LEDs could also take over these functions?
